On the feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus 4 of the possible 7 jubilarians from the British Region gathered at Herbert House, Liverpool to give thanks to God for 70, 60 and 25 years of Priesthood.
The Jubilarians were Fr. Brian Coogan (70), Fr. Peter Watson (60), Fr. David Whelan (60) and Fr. Dermot Byrne (25). The others from the British Region this year are: Fr. Bill McAvoy (60), Fr. Bernard Phelan (50) and Fr. Michael Freyne (40), who were held in our thoughts and prayers too.
The principal celebrants at Mass were the four jubilarians, the homilist being Fr. Dermot Byrne, who reminded us of our roots in God’s love, and the expression of that love through a life of Love and Service in the world as Mill Hill Missionaries.
Mass was followed by aperitifs in Herbert House lounge, then a celebratory lunch for all gathered. The chef and catering staff, assisted in serving by some of our Carers, excelled themselves in providing an excellent lunch.
Presentations were made to each of the jubilarians during lunch, and a celebratory cake was cut by all the jubilarians and enjoyed by all. After lunch residents and guests enjoyed gathering in our lounge reminiscing over the “Old Days” at St. Peter’s College, Burn Hall and St. Joseph’s College.
To all the jubilarians from the UK and elsewhere, we wish them health and happiness, and many more years in God’s service.
AD MULTOS ANNOS!
