For the First Time a Religious Sister from Katchi Kohli Community Makes her Solemn Profession.
For the first time ever, a Katchi Kohli made her Final Profession with the Presentation Sisters of the Blessed Virgin Mary. On April 9, Mgr Samson Shukardin, bishop of Hyderabad, Pakistan, presided at the eucharistic celebration and final profession of Sr. Anita Mansingh, PBVM.
Sr. Anita joined the Presentation Sisters in 2008 leaving her familiar settings to venture into the unknown. Three years later, she completed her aspirancy and novitiate and made her first profession. After spending her juniorate years in different communities and apostolates, she finally dedicated her entire life to God and His mission.
In his homily, bishop Samson expressed his joy of being part of this historic occasion. He then reminded the Sisters of the beauty and the responsibilities of being a Religious Sister and encouraged them strongly to follow the example of their Foundress Nano Nagle who dedicated her life serving the people with a special concern for providing education to the poor. Together with Sr. Anita, Sr. Gulnaz from the same province made her Final Profession as well. Since the Presentation Sisters arrived in the country in 1895, Srs. Anita and Gulnaz are the first candidates from Sindh province to have made their Final Profession with the congregation.
Since this was a historic moment for the community and for the diocese as well, the Final Profession was arranged locally in Hyderabad Diocese in Sindh, in the south of the country, rather than up north where the Provincialate of Presentation Sisters is located. The Solemn Profession was indeed a witness of faith to the small minority community of Christians in this part of the country. It was a boost in their faith to persevere in the midst of hostility and an intimidating environment.
Fr. Brendan Mullhall and Fr. Mark Connolly, both Mill Hill missionaries set in motion the apostolate among the Katchi Kohli people in late 1970s and together with the Presentation Sisters, they officially opened a mission station in Tando Allahyar in 1986 where Sr. Anita grew up.
