Karuna Society, India
Mill Hill missionaries from Jozefhuis and Vrijland in Oosterbeek, The Netherlands, have celebrated the daily Eucharist with the Carmelite Sisters at the nearby Schaarsbergen convent for more than 70 years now.
One of the sisters, Bernadette Koenegras OCD, recently shared a video of her sibling, Clementine, who is the foundress in India of the Karuna Society – an organisation that runs a hospital and sactuary for sick and handicapped animals. A moving witness to the care for God's creation.
"Karuna Society for Animals and Nature has been established in Puttaparthi, Andhra Pradesh, South India since 2000. It is a registered non-profit organization working for animal welfare and the environment by providing free medical care and shelter for sick, injured, abandoned and abused animals, while sustaining all food production with organic farming and alternative fuels. “Karuna”, in sanskrit, means compassion, which is the motivating force behind all our activities".
