The 60, 50 and 40 years Jubilarians of the German speaking Region

On a fine, bright and sunny Sunday, 10th July 2016, jubilarians, brothers and guests met in a good spirit for the Jubilee Mass at 11 o’clock in the Chapel of the Missionshaus in Brixen. Hans Stampfer and Leonhard Wiedemayr celebrated their Diamond Jubilee, both of them having been ordained on the 8th of July 1956 in Mill Hill, almost exactly 60 years ago.

Basic Ecclesial Communities

In the desire to sustain the Basic Ecclesial Community program of the parishes in the Diocese of San Jose de Antique, the continuing formation of the BEC coordinators is being held quarterly. Every parish sends their Parish BEC Formation Team (PBFT) to this continuing formation and updating. Last July 02, 2016, the PBFT Southern Deanery, met at the Parish Sta. Teresa de Avila in Casay to discuss some points which may help them to sustain the BEC in the villages of their respective parishes. In this updating, they tried to look for ways on how Pope Francis’ Laudato Si be of guide in animating the village cells of the BEC in every parishes.

Parish of Sta Teresa, Casay, Philippines

The Parish of Sta. Teresa de Avila in Casay has remote mountain villages separated by seasonal rivers and high hills. During rainy season, like at this time of the year, this villages could only be reached through trekking and long hour walks. Last July 01, 2016, I, the village officials, and some villagers blessed the “farm to market” cement road in Casay and the hanging bridge in Sitio Iboc, Casay. These cemented foothpath and hanging bridge will help all of us here in Casay to reach faraway villages with lesser slipping on the mud!

Curaçao, rainbow island.

The people of Curaçao were celebrating their ‘Dia di Bandera’ (Flag Day), the first day I set foot on this small Caribbean island (60 km long, with a breadth varying from 6 – 12 km; population 150.000) just off the coast of Venezuela. Proud to be an independent entity within the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Curaçaoans still cherish the connection. And that connection goes back a long way, to 1634 in fact, when the Dutch took over the island from the Spanish. Sadly, soon after, Curaçao became an important port of transit (and destination) for the slave trade, like other islands in the Caribbean. Slavery was abolished here in 1863.

Catholic Digital Communications Conference in New York City

Recently I had the opportunity to attend an unique Conference on Catholic Digital Communications at Fordham University. The participants were meeting the initiators and producers of two recent grand initiatives towards Evangelization in the Digital World. The Pope's Worldwide Prayer Network (Apostleship of Prayer) started in January 2016 with publishing an inspiring monthly "Pope Video" (see www.thepopevideo.org) and in March 2016 it launched globally the Pope's official Prayer App titled "Click To Pray" (see www.clicktopray.org). The producers of these two projects of evangelization are really creative, professional and emphatic in their approach and methodology in order to reach the hearts and minds of especially young people. They are connecting prayer with the real world and encourage the development of a deep and personal relationship with Jesus. The motto of the "Click to Pray" app is "Together, we make each day different". "Click to Pray" encourages users to pray every day for the challenges facing humanity and the mission of the Church, as expressed by the Pope in his monthly prayer intentions. It proposes a rhythm of prayer three times a day: with Jesus in the morning, during the day, and at night. The vision of the Pope's Worldwide Prayer Network is to help people to be apostles of prayer in daily life through a spiritual path called "The Way of the Heart", which transforms their way of serving Christ's mission.

Mill Hill South Africa

Recently Fr Andrew Mukulu mhm, Councillor for Africa, returned to a familiar territory where he once served as a missionary some years ago. He visited many mission areas: Kroonstad, Vijeonsroon, Parys, Kopies, Vredefort, Heilbron, and Sasolburg. He met with people and celebrated Mass with them. People were surprised as he had a very good memory of Sesotho, the local language.
